Cascada targets Audi A5 Cabriolet

Opel will launch its new Cascada cabriolet early next year with a tilt towards the premium segment positioning of Audi, writes Brian Byrne

The 2-door four-seater replaces the Astra TwinTop, and uses a fabric rather than steel folding roof, which can be opened or stowed in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h.

The Cascada is longer and wider than the Astra predecessor, and will be specified and priced to target the Audi A5 and similar. It may also be sold in the US as a Buick.

There are elements of Insignia styling in the shape, though Cascada is much more strongly sculpted.

Engines will utilise Opel’s current turbocharging technology and will range from 1.4 through 2.0 litres.
