New CR-V arrives

Honda Ireland has launched its new generation CR-V SUV in a price range of €37,785-€50,095, writes Trish Whelan.

The fourth generation of the vehicle that established the concept of 'soft-roader' is available in four grade levels and is powered by a more efficient version of the brand's familiar 2.2 diesel which has brought the tax rating down from E to C.

A 2WD version with Honda's upcoming new 1.6 diesel will be available from autumn of next year.

Although shorter and lower than the car it replaces, the new CR-V offers more room inside and has a class-leading cargo space of up to 1,669L.

The AWD system operates from startup but the vehicle slips immediately into 2WD once it senses there's no traction loss. On a quick experience during the launch day it proved to be very capable on rutted tracks and (very) slippery and mucked up grass.

The CR-V is very highly specified with standard across the range Intelligent AWD, 17-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, electric windows, remote audio controls, driver's seat electric lumbar adjustment, LED daytime running lights, Hill start assist, a deflation warning system, and USB and Aux plug-in points for iPods.

Some 7,000 units of CR-V have been sold in Ireland since the nameplate was launched here in 1996.
