Advanced systems growth predicted

The market for advanced driver safety systems is expected to increase ten-fold by 2020 because of new tougher standards to be introduced in 2014, writes Brian Byrne.

At the moment the market is worth €1bn a year, but Friedrich Angerbauer, head of Continental's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) unit, expects that to be worth €8-10bn in eight years' time.

He told Automotive News that the Euro NCAP upcoming requirements for anti-collision and pedestrian safety will boost the business area.

Continental is a leading developer and supplier of features that include Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Emergency Steer Assist (ESA).
