Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid in production

The first units of a planned 1,000 Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid cars are in the production process at the company's plant in Gothernburg.

The car will be the world's first diesel plug-in hybrid when it goes on sale early next year. In subsequent years the company expects to sell up to 6,000 units a year.

The hybrid drivetrain is claimed to have a 52 milometres range on electric power alone.

The car is being produced on the same line as the standard V60, V70, XC70, S80 and XC90 models. There are 300 extra parts involved in the assembly, including the 11.2 kWh lithium battery.
