'Don't follow Apple Maps' - police plea

Police in Australia's state of Victoria have asked motorists not to rely on the Maps app in their iPhones when driving in remote areas.

That's because the number of vehicles they've had to rescue from outback areas is increasing, and the police say motorists are relying too much on technology.

They want drivers to use more common sense. In recent times they they rescued six motorists who were stranded following Apple's directions to reach the inland city of Mildure.

They were being directed to a national park 43 miles away from the city. In Australia that can be serious, as in the national park mentioned temperatures can rise as high as 46degC and there's no water supply there.
