Following the latest Motorcheck.ie report that consumers have a one in five chance of buying a used car that has been clocked or is still under finance, Shane Teskey of Motorcheck.ie says: "As the vast majority of used car sales occur on a 'private to private' basis, the benefits and protection of consumer legislation do not apply. This is why it's so important that a prospective buyer carries out the necessary checks in advance of finalising any deal".
Motorcheck.ie carries out independent car history checks on behalf of private and trade buyers. The information contained in each report comes from official sources such as the Department of Transport, the Irish Credit Bureau and a suite of internal databases managed by the company.
Vehicles imported to Ireland from the UK are automatically added to the Motorcheck database within 24 hours of their registration making it the most up to date car history database in the country.
Motorcheck.ie also owns and operates Textcheck - an sms based service that gives users the ability to retrieve an accurate market value for their car by text message.
