The nine ports already signed to host the 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 include the starting port of Alicante in Spain, which also featured last year; from there the boats sail to Recife on the north east coast of Brazil; then on to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and then to Sanya in China, Auckland in New Zealand and around Cape Horn to ItajaĆ in the south of Brazil.
Next stop will be Newport, Rhode Island before a transatlantic crossing to Lisbon. The Race will finish in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Sanya, a tourism capital in Hainan province boasting year-round sunshine, in China is the ninth host port to be unveiled on the 2014-15 round the world route. China has become a fixture on the Race calendar after a stop in Quingdao in 2008-09 and Sanya in 2011-12.
