Nine ports now declared for Volvo Ocean Race

The nine ports already signed to host the 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 include the starting port of Alicante in Spain, which also featured last year; from there the boats sail to Recife on the north east coast of Brazil; then on to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and then to Sanya in China, Auckland in New Zealand and around Cape Horn to ItajaĆ­ in the south of Brazil.

Next stop will be Newport, Rhode Island before a transatlantic crossing to Lisbon. The Race will finish in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Sanya, a tourism capital in Hainan province boasting year-round sunshine, in China is the ninth host port to be unveiled on the 2014-15 round the world route. China has become a fixture on the Race calendar after a stop in Quingdao in 2008-09 and Sanya in 2011-12.
