Fiesta with rear-wheel-drive

Electric drive that saves spaceFord has demonstrated a Fiesta with electric motors in the two rear wheels as a prototype for smaller sized electric cars for urban use, writes Brian Byrne.

The system means there's no motor under the hood, offering the prospect for much shorter 4-seat cars to be designed in the future.

The eWheelDrive system, developed in conjunction with German automotive components maker Schaeffler, could also mean the development of cars that could move sideways, parking tight parking easier.
