Kia and Hyundai are the only two car brands in Ireland bucking the trend in a market that is down by 20 percent compared to the first four months of last year.
Hyundai is standing at No. 4 after Volkswagen, Toyota and Ford, with an 8.4 percent increase in units sold and at No. 9 Kia is the only other brand with an increase in sales of 0.5 percent.
The biggest loser at the moment is Renault, currently showing a more than 50 percent drop in sales and struggling to stay in at No. 10 in the Irish charts. In terms of models, Ford's Fiesta is also showing an increase of 2.6 percent putting the car in fourth place behind the Golf, Qashqai and Focus. A very close fifth is Toyota's Auris showing a 1.6 percent increase in units sold.
Speaking for Kia Motors Ireland, Aidan Doyle said they are very happy with their performance in a very difficult climate. He said that there is a big interest being shown in the new Carens due to arrive at the end of May (Carens is pictured above). "However, most of the sales for this year in Ireland are now gone, so we expect Carens to make a big impact for us in 2014." He added that Kia doesn't indulge in the practise of preregistration echoing recent comments by Ford and Toyota.
