Kia Motors world premiered its latest concept, the Cub, at the recent Seoul International Motor Show, writes Trish Whelan.
Cub is a compact, four-door coupe concept, sleek and small, with a super-smooth exterior, cheerful face, and headlamps that feature two-point LED lights.
A two-colour paint finish with sporty stripe hints at the Cub's high-performance potential, while the car's broad track gives it an imposing stance.
The car is less than four meters long, has rearward opening rear doors and an 'access-all-areas' interior concept without traditional B-pillars providing big access to the luxuriously trimmed cabin. The instrument cluster is inspired by the eyes of a wild animal while the centre-stack design is minimalist.
Power is from a 1.6 direct injection petrol engine as in the new Kia pro_cee'd GT and cee'd GT sold in Europe. Like them, it can accelerate to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds.
It's styled to appeal to trend-setting urban dwellers. Another example of superb styling from Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer. At present, there are no plans to put the Kia Cub concept into volume production.
