Kuga production increased to meet demand

Ford Kuga production is set to increase by 10 percent this year to cope with increasing demand from throughout Europe.

As a result, production of this smart utility vehicle is expected to reach 100,000 units annual for the first time. Kuga is built in Ford's manufacturing plant in Valencia, Spain. It is the first SUV the company will export to 72 markets in five continents.

New Kuga arrived in Ireland last month. It is available with a 2.0 TDCi diesel engine with 140hp in front-wheel drive and AWD versions offering from 5.3 L/100km and 139g/km C02; and a 163hp version that achieves from 5.9 L/100km and 154 g/km C02.

Two grades are offered: Zetec and Titanium. Prices are from €33,450-€45,640.

An interesting feature is that the powered tailgate can be opened or closed simply by a kicking motion beneath the rear bumper. Great if you have your hands full at the time. New Kuga offers 46 litres more luggage space than the former model while the rear seats fold flat in one movement.

The car achieved a Euro NCAP overall protection score of 88 percent, the highest-ever for a mid-sized SUV.
