American Airlines expects to save $1.2m worth of fuel a year now that it has ditched its paper flight manuals in favour of iPads, writes Brian Byrne.
The airline has issued 8,000 iPads to its flight crews, each one replacing more than 3,000 pages of information.
The Electronic Flight Bag Program means that the 1.35lbs iPad takes the place of 35lbs of manuals, charts and reference materials previously carried in each airplane.
