Skoda has revamped its Superb in time for the 132 registration plate in July with increased specifications on all models and a new entry price from €24,995 for the 1.4 TSI petrol Active model, writes Trish Whelan.
The new Superb is available in a variety of turbo charged TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines with reduced fuel consumption across all models. They include a 1.4 TSI 125hp petrol; 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesels of 105/140/170hp.
The entry and most popular 1.6 TDI diesel produced 105bhp and now achieves 4.2 L/100km (67mpg). The range topping 2.0 TDI, 170bhp produces 20g/km less than the outgoing model which results in annual savings of €120 in road tax. In some cases, C02 emissions are down by 19 percent resulting in reduced vehicle registration taxes (VRT) and savings of up to €3,400 when compared to the outgoing model.
Three trims are offered: Active, Ambition and Elegance. Bluetooth is now available to all models.
The Superb competes in the Executive saloon segment and has grown its market share for the last three years. It is one of the largest cars in its class with unrivalled luggage capacity and rear legroom in particular. It also benefits from a TwinDoor that allows the rear boot door to open like a traditional saloon or alternatively as a hatch back. It is also offered in Combi (estate) body styles. Superb 4x4 alternatives will be offered later this year.
