Volvo will be showcasing a truly 'self-parking' car next week, writes Brian Byrne.
The vehicle can be left at the entrance to a car park and will then go and find a vacant space and park itself.
The car park infrastructure must be equipped 'Vehicle 2' technology, which has sensors in the surface that interact with others in the car.
The car will be able to negotiate around pedestrians, obstacles, and vehicles not equipped with the technology using the same parking area.
When the owner comes back, he or she can use their smartphone to tell the car to come back to the entrance.
