It's only been available for one day, but already figures from Motorcheck.ie show that 1,932 new cars bearing the brand new number plate have driven off the forecourt.
In the last 24 hours there have been 164 Nissan Qashqais, 149 Ford Focus cars and 136 VW Golfs purchased by new car buyers.
On the '132' Leader Board, Ford have most new car sales with 337, followed by Hyundai on 236, Nissan 235, Volkswagen 231, Toyota on 143, Renault 91, Opel 83, Kia 71, Suzuki on 68, and Skoda 55.
Industry insiders expect the month to deliver a bumper 6,000 units ensuring the success of the number plate system.
