Walk, don't talk. Talk, don't walk.

The number of pedestrians injured while talking on their cellphones in the US has doubled in five years, writes Brian Byrne.

According to researchers at Ohio State University, some 1,500 people were treated for injuries related to talking on phones while walking, across the US in 2010, and the numbers continue to climb each year.

The scientists examined reports from 100 hospitals across the country, and Professor Jack Nasar says he'll not be surprised if the statistics double again by 2015.

Predictably, young people are the most likely to be injured as they walk and talk at the same time.

Meanwhile, distracted driving was a cause in some 3,300 road deaths in the US in 2011, qith 387,000 people injured in road crashes involving a distracted driver.
