VW still at Number One in Ireland

Volkswagen registrations are running on a par with the market reduction of 7 percent in sales for year to date 2013 compared to the same period last year, writes Brian Byrne.

Volkswagen is the Number One selling brand for the year to date, a matter which the company attributes to strong sales of the VW Golf, Ireland's best selling car at the moment.

Operations Director Volkswagen Passenger Cars Paul Burke (pictured) said signs are promising for a strong finish to 2013 and he added that the Swappage programme proposed by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry in advance of this month's Budget, could be key to the continued success of the market in 2014, if it is accepted by government.

Registrations of Volkswagen cars so far in 2013 are 9,073 units compared to 9,800 units in the same period of 2012.
