A new Dublin to Cherbourg direct ferry service by Irish Ferries will offer a less expensive option for motoring holidays to France, writes Brian Byrne.
Using the newly-chartered 500 passenger Epsilon, which will on weekdays be augmenting the Dublin-Holyhead route, the company will be offering Saturday afternoon sailings arriving in Cherbourg in mid-Sunday morning.
The plan is to run the service year round, and prices will start at €99 for a car and driver.
The company is offering it as an 'economy' option, because the Epsilon won't have as lavish cabin and entertainment/food options as the Oscar Wilde which will continue to provide the Rosslare-Cherbourg and Rosslare-Roscoff services.
The first sailing will be on Saturday 18 January. More information and booking on www.irishferries.com.
