Mazda introduces 1.5 petrol engine

A new 1.5 petrol engine from Mazda will be an option in the new Mazda3 and the main power petrol unit in the next Mazda2, writes Brian Byrne.

The engine is the latest in the SkyActiv range of high-efficiency engines from the brand, and has an output of 100hp. With CO2 emissions of 119g/km it has an economy of 55mpg equivalent.

Mazda is also understood to be developing a small SUV based on the next Mazda2 to compete with the Peugeot 2008 and similar.
