Audi revealed their allroad shooting brake show car at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, writes Trish Whelan.
The two-door crossover car is a four-seater aimed at young, sporty and active people. There's also space for big sports equipment with the rear seat back folded down.
Its hybrid drive, as powerful as it is efficient, makes a new form of quattro drive possible - the e-tron quattro. Powered by a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine (292hp) and generating 380 Nm of torque. A second electric motor is mounted to the rear axle.
This technology produces 300 kW (408hp) of power but only consumes 1.9 L/100kms of fuel (123mpg). Its total driving range is up to 820km (509 miles). The car can be driven in three driving modes, EV, Hybrid or Sport.
The charging port is in the left pillar, with a fuel door in the right pillar. The car's exterior is a mix of aluminium and carbon fibre reinforced polymer.
Audi say they are offering concrete glimpses of the near future in this show car.
