Volkswagen Group takes 26% market share

Volkswagen has retained its Number 1 vehicle brand in Ireland following the January sales, writes Trish Whelan.

The Volkswagen Group, who have Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT have taken circa 26 percent of the January market, making them the biggest car group in Ireland.

Year to date figures show that both VW Passenger Cars and WW Commercial Vehicles are up by 26 percent and 25 percent respectively compared to the same period in 2013.

In January, Audi remained the number one premium brand in the country; Skoda enjoyed their best January ever delivering more cars in the month than in any other year in their history in Ireland, while SEAT saw a 20 percent increase in sales compared to January 2013.

Figures from Volkswagen Bank show that around €170 million was loaned to customers in 2013 which was almost €50 million, or 40 percent, more than in 2012. Half of all VW customers who are taking up finance are now opting for PCPs (Personal Contract Plans).
