Irish insurance company, Blue Insurances, has launched a new product, bicycleinsurance.ie which is set to bring relief to the thousands of cyclists who fall victim to crime every year with competitive prices starting from €1.99 per month.
This product also includes cover for accidental damage,t heft, breakdown, personal accident and 60 days worldwide cover. Bike theft, in particular, has become a huge problem in Ireland in recent years, with recent CSO figures showing that over 2,000 bicycles were stolen during 2013.
Although many bicycle owners may believe they are protected under their home insurance, the vast majority will not be covered as home insurance can have limits on the value of items that can be insured and may also have high excess rates. If people are unfortunate enough to have to claim, then another benefit is that they can avoid claiming under their household policy which won't affect their home insurance renewal.
