The Minister for Transport and Tourism, Leo Varadker TD, publicly thanked the garda 'whistleblowers' at a conference in Dublin today, writes Brian Byrne.
Speaking at the RSA International Road Safety Driver Distraction event, the Minister said the two men concerned had only resorted to their actions when they had failed through all the regular channels.
Adding that they might 'not have got everything right', he said they had brought an important issue on the penalty points system to light, and new procedures were now in place so that the issues couldn't happen again.
