New Jeep rides out

One of the key Jeep events of the year will be the unveiling at tomorrow's Geneva Motor Show of the new Renegade small SUV, writes Brian Byrne.

The new vehicle has the traditional Jeep look with a prominent grille and typical wheelarches. It will be available only with four-wheel drive, and there will be petrol and diesel engines, depending on market requirements. A 9-speed automatic will be offered.

The Renegade will be built at Fiat's plant in Melfi, Italy, where the related 500X SUV with a Fiat brand will also be produced. Expect European sales of the Renegade to begin this summer.

Key competitors are the Nissan Juke, the Opel Mokka, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.
