Ferrari driver, Matt Griffin (31), will compete in the ’24 heir du Mans’ taking place at Circuit de la Sarthe in France this coming weekend and has high hopes for a repeat of the 2013 event where he finished on the third step of the podium in GT Pro am class, after driving the number 61 Ferrari 458 GTE for AF Corse.
This will be Griffin’s third consecutive year taking part in what is one of the mod prominent race events in motorsport. Matt will again be the only Irish driver entered in the race and is proud to be representing Ireland and says as with all 24hr races, ‘the first goal is to finish’.
This year the Northamptonshire based Irishman will pilot the number 52 Ferrari 458 GTE for professional team, Ram Racing, alongside team mates Alvero Parente and Federico Leo in the GT Pro Class.
“The Le Mans 24hr is the biggest race in the world. It is also the most difficult. I’m feeling really good going into the race week as Ram Racing is very well prepared. While Ram is a fairly new team, there is a lot of Le Mans experience within the team and they know what it takes to be successful,” Matt explained.
The 24hr race is scheduled to start at 15.00 CET tomorrow, Saturday.
After the race, Matt heads to Jerez in Spain for the third round of the International GT Open.
