A taster of Alfa's 4C

This was yesterday's car, some laps around Mondello to mark the launch of the Alfa Romeo 4C in Ireland, writes Brian Byrne.

For those interested in pure Alfa race-level experience, this is undoubtedly a life-highlight car, and I'm looking forward to a few days with it next week (make list of excuses to leave the office!).

The soon-to-be-its-own-icon 2-seater can whip to 100km/h in around 4.5secs, even quicker in Race Mode. At less than 900kg in weight, its 230hp 4-cylinder engine offers a winning power/weight ratio, and there's almost perfect handling.

Around 200 are earmarked for these islands, so get your deposit in for the €70,000 honey now. Hand-built, there's a waiting list.

More after next week.
