New Scirocco in autumn

The new Volkswagen Scirocco comes to RHD markets in the autumn, writes Brian Byrne.

Shown at Geneva in March, the car has substantially more presence thanks to major revisions to the front and rear styling, and LED daylight running lights set inside the main headlights system.

Engines include 1.4 125hp TSI and 2.0 petrol units, and others offering up to 280hp. The company claims fuel efficiency improvements of up to 19 percent.

All Sciroccos now have LED tail lights, and the Volkswagen logo badge now functions as the tailgate release handle.

The six new turbocharged direct-injection petrol and diesel engines all meet EU6 emissions standards and return between 67.3 and 35.3 mpg. Two diesel engines are both 2.0-litre units, with either 150hp or 184hp. Gearboxes are 6-speed manual and DSG automatics.

Inside, the dashboard has new design dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console, consisting of chronometer, charge pressure and oil temperature gauges – a tribute to the 1974 model.
