SKODA's most modern 4x4 model range, ever

Skoda Superb
In the compact and mid-class segment, SKODA claims to have the most modern and broadest range of 4x4 vehicles on offer in Ireland, writes Trish Whelan.

The Czech brand's current 4x4 range consists of four 4x4 models including the Octavia Combi 4x4, Yeti 4x4 as well as the superb 4x4 and Superb Combi 4x4.

The range will expand further to five models when the new Octavia Scout arrives in early September.

Raymond Leddy, Head of Marketing & Product, SKODA Ireland says "The all-wheel drive market 'is extremely weather dependent in Ireland'. "During the cold snap in 2012 we saw our 4x4 sales increase fivefold to 237 AWD vehicles. This was a direct consequence of the severity of the winter of 2011. With recent milder winters we have seen demand for 4x4 vehicles decrease and we expect to deliver one hundred 4x4 vehicles to Irish customers this year."

Apart from being more capable in snow and ice, AWD cars also provide better handling on normal road conditions and perform 'exceptionally well' in mud and rough terrain.

The Octavia Combi Ambition 1.6 TDI 105hp 4x4, with C02 of 119g/km (€200 annual road tax) is priced from €29,095; the Yeti Active 2.0 TDI 110hp 4x4, with 154g/km (road tax of €390) is from €28,520; while the Superb Active 2.0 TDI 140hp 4x4, emitting 137g/km (€280p/a road tax) is from €31,515.
