New S-MAX next summer

We've seen it at previews and as 'concept', but Ford has finally released details of its new generation S-MAX, writes Brian Byrne.

On the same footprint as the previous very successful 7-seat MPV, the new one retains the general style cues but in a softer and more elegant theme.

The interior has been substantially changed, with instrumentation similar to what we'll see in the new Mondeo at the end of November. There have also been significant improvements in ease of access to the rear seats, and generally upgraded storage facilities.

A range of 2.0 diesels, along with 1.5 and 2.0 EcoBoost petrol engines will be available in the new car.

The new S-MAX will also be the second Ford vehicle to be available in the up-market 'Vignale' grade, after the new Mondeo.

The S-MAX launches in mid-summer 2015.
