Third generation Fabia at Paris

This is the new Skoda Fabia hatchback, which will debut at the Paris Motor Show, writes Brian Byrne.

It has the sharp edged styling shown in the Vision C concept seen at recent motor shows, and Skoda says that among other things it will have the largest boot in its class.

The new car is wider and longer than the outgoing version and Skoda is emphasising the availability of a wide range of customising options.

Connectivity includes allowing smartphones to be easily paired to the car, with MirrorLink apps connection.

The 980kg weight and a range of new engines make it up to 17 percent more efficient than the current car.

There will be anti-collision and other safety technologies available for the first time in the nameplate.

The car is scheduled to begin sales in some European markets from November, and a Combi version will follow in early 2015.

The third generation of the model, Fabia has sold almost 3.5m units since it was launched in 1999.
