While the Audi A3 is the 2014 World Car of the Year winner, the journey to decide the 2015 top winner has already begun, writes Trish Whelan.
The winner will be declared on 2 April at the New York International Auto Show. The World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year will also be announced at this time.
The awards programme is the recognised number 1 premier automotive award.
The Road to the World Car will make a stop at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday, 3 March 2015 to announce the top three finalists in all award categories.
The judging panel is made up of 73 automotive journalists from around the world.
The Motoring Editor of the Irish Independent, Eddie Cunningham (pictured), was appointed in August this year to the jury. He is the only Irish representative on the is elite global jury of expert motoring journalists who drive and assess cars from all over the world before, ultimately, voting for the overall World Car of the Year. Eddie succeeds Padraic Deane, publisher and managing editor at Automotive Publications as the Irish juror, who retired from the position.
Last year, the World Car Awards and the New York Auto Show announced a five-year alliance that will keep the awards programme in New York City through 2018.
