Thomas O'Rafferty from Gorey scored a hat-trick of wins when he steered his Ford Fiesta to his third victory in a row in the Super Final at Carlow Car Club's Rallycross at Mondello Park yesterday.
With heavy rain late in the afternoon making the circuit very slippery, O'Rafferty led the main race from start to finish, despite a strong challenge from Declan Kelly's more modern Fiesta and the Nova of Pat Ryan, who surprised everyone by matching the two four wheel drive Supercars in his two wheel drive machine.
Pearse Browne won the Modified A Final, with Declan Nolan and Peter McGarry taking the two Stock Hatch A races. James Roe took a narrow win in the Junior Final.
Killian Duffy secured a memorable win in his career when he navigated Abdulaziz AlKuwari to first place at the Oman International Rally on Saturday.
Everything went according to the plan for the Qatari Irish partnership, having finished the penultimate day with a comfortable lead of two minutes and twenty two seconds, they kept their cool and drove patiently on the final day to maintain the advantage and take home the title.
Duffy admitted that they didn't take any risks during the final day of the three day event. "We didn't want to risk our chances by putting pressure on the car. So we drove without losing our composure, the strategy worked well for us."
"It is a fantastic feeling to win the Oman International Rally, and the win will boost the team's morale as we prepare for the next round of the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC)," said the south Mayo man.
