Motorsport Ireland Weekend Round Up

Eamonn Byrne and Steven Ferguson, who have no fewer than 14 Hewison Autotest titles between them, shared the honours in the Carrick-on-Suir MC double header weekend in Waterford with a win and a second place apiece over the two days.

Wicklowman Byrne was on top on the opening day, beating his rival by 5.7 seconds, with his newphew Daniel sharing the family Mini saloon into third place, while Ferguson, fromTyrone, took a narrow 1.1 second win yesterday leaving Byrne as the first winner of the Michael Murphy Memorial Trophy for the best combined result.

In Cork, David Beamish and Muireann Hayes were the clear winners of the 1000 Shakes Navigation Trial, run in wintry weather conditions near Charleville. After a very challenging 95 mile route on snow and ice covered roads, they were a long way ahead of nearest challengers Owen Murphy and Daire Hayes.
