There has been very strong interest in the new generation Volvo XC90 now due in Ireland at the end of April, writes Brian Byrne.
According to Volvo Car Ireland's Adrian Yeates, the expressions of interest in the vehicle have come both from existing XC90 owners and from other brands.
He said he expects that the car, the second generation of the nameplate, will generate significant 'conquest' sales.
All six of the special First Edition units of the new car allocated to Ireland were sold in less than two days after they went on order last September. Just 1,927 FE units are being made available worldwide. The number reflects the founding year of Volvo, 1927.
Adrian Yeates also said dealers are reporting an unexpectedly strong interest in the Twin Engine version, a plug-in hybrid petrol engine with a total of 400hp available, yet has an official CO2 emissions level of just 60g/km.
The new XC90 is much later to market than originally planned. When Ford still owned Volvo they shelved plans for the second generation of the car. They sold it to Chinese company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010, and a decision to reactivate the vehicle was taken in 2012.
