Honda rolls out Civic R in Geneva

It's been hotly anticipated for some time now, and the new Civic Type R gets its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, writes Brian Byrne. It was revealed tonight at a preview for journalists in the city.

Powered by a 310hp 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine, it has more power, torque and dynamic response than any previous production Honda car. A 0-100km/h performance of 5.7secs has been achieved.

The style details are designed to maximise aerodynamic efficiency from the basic Civic body, and there's a +R driving mode to provide maximum response of the chassis and engine.

Honda's City-Brake Active system will be fitted as standard on the Civic Type R, which goes on sale in its first European markets this summer.
