Mercedes looking down the road at a pickup

This is a concept view of a pickup from Mercedes-Benz that could be on sale by the end of the decade, writes Brian Byrne.

The first production pickup proposed by a luxury carmaker would aim at a growing global demand for pickups in private segments they haven't been before.

In some countries, such as Australia where the 'ute' (utility) is an iconic format, pickups are the best selling cars in a carmaker's range.

Mercedes-Benz says the segment is 'undergoing a transformation' worldwide, and that it is the first premium carmaker to respond to the move.
