New Megane in preparation

A new generation Renault Megane will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the autumn, and will go on sale in 2016, writes Brian Byrne.

It will be built on a new platform that promises a lighter car, helping to squeeze more fuel efficiency alongside new frugal engines.

The car is expected to be more sleekly styled, and compete more effectively with models from Opel, VW and Ford that are more recent.

For Renault across Europe, the Megane is its third biggest seller, after the Clio and Captur. The company is hoping to generate increased market share with the mid-summer arrival of its compact Kadjar SUV (above), launched last week at the Geneva Motor Show.
