The new Skoda Octavia RS230, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, will go on sale here in July, writes Trish Whelan.
This special edition features a new, racy exterior design with black elements, sporty interior, modern technology and more power.
Top speed is 250km/h (156mph), making it the fastest series-produced Octavia ever. Road holding has also been upgraded.
Available since 2013, the Octavia RS range has accounted for over 6 percent of all Octavia cars sold. The volume seller has been the 2.0 TDI 184bhp diesel with the 2.0 TSI petrol 220bhp also featuring. The new '230' number relates to the new RS special edition's horsepower, propelling the car from 0-100km/h in just 6.7 seconds via its new 230bhp 2.0 petrol engine.
Fuel economy is from 6.4 L/100km (which equals 44mpg). The car will have more equipment than the standard version, with 19-inch alloy wheels, new sports seats, back design twin exhausts, and front grille all added to the package.
Prices have yet to be confirmed but are expected to start from €36,500 for the 2.0 petrol hatchback. Combi estate and DSG automatic alternatives will also be available.
