Citroen is developing a customer racing version of its C3, the R5, writes Brian Byrne.
Available for racing in WRC 2, the ERC and in most national championships, such cars are reduced cost over a full-blown WRC.
Generally they have 1.6 engines with outputs of around 280hp, AWD, sequential gearboxes and other racing technology.
The specification of the new C3 R5 hasn't yet been revealed but the car is being tested for both gravel and tarmac racing, and homologation for the FIA will be done next year.
