Volvo will be filling out its SUV range with the new XC40 from January next, at a starting price of €47,450, writes Brian Byrne.
Initial availability will be the D4 engine with automatic transmission, with further engines available from May of 2018, including a new 3-cylinder engine and a 4-cylinder Drive-E petrol.
A feature will be a 'digital key' which will allow sharing the use of the car with family or friends without having to pass over a physical key.
The digital key will be part of an innovative Care by Volvo subscription package which uses the business model of mobile phone companies of a single monthly payment that takes care of all financial aspects of having a car, with it being replaced for a new one every 24 months.
The XC40 is the first of a range of cars from Volvo using the modular CMA architecture, which will include fully electric vehicles.
