'Robutt' tests Ford's car seats wear and tear

This is 'Robutt', a robotic device designed to simulate how people get in and out of their car seats, writes Brian Byrne.

It is used by Ford to establish typical 'perch patterns' and establish the wear and tear characteristics on seat structures and materials.

It can simulate ten years of actual use of a car seat in just three weeks, and was used by the company in the development of the seats in the new Fiesta.
