Prototypes of the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz car are being tested in extreme condition environments as well as ordinary conditions, in advance of market launch next year, writes Brian Byrne.
The ECQ has already been put through its assessment paces in Sweden's winter, and will undergo hot-weather testing in southern Europe. By the time it goes on sale it will have been tested in Germany, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Dubai, South Africa, the USA and China.
Almost 200 prototypes have been built for the various validation tests which the vehicle development programme requires.
The ECQ will have been in development for four years before production begins in 2019, with approximately two-thirds of the testing in real-life environments, the remainder conducted digitally.
