A polar explorer has completed a 16,000km trip from Poland to Japan in a Nissan Leaf electric car, writes Brian Byrne.
Marek Kaminski, who holds the record for trekking to both the North and South Poles in one year, took three months to do the Leaf trip, passing through eight countries. It took a month longer than planned, and he took in an extra country.
And he's now planning to go back home on the reverse route.
On the trip he had to make detours along dirt tracks in Mongolia, and was required to devise some inventive charging solutions in Russia.
Over the journey he charged the car 53, getting an average range of 250 km per charge. The longest drive in one day was 493km.
