On prototypes spotted testing on German roads, the car has a stylish hatch-type tailgate. It also shows off a sleeker style under its camouflage.
The vehicle will be built on the latest Ford platform debuted with the latest Fiesta, and later the new Focus.
It isn't known if the EcoSport name will be retained.
Ford's next generation Kuga is also on test in prototype form, and also has a less boxy look than the current car. It will be sold as the Escape in the US.
