Easytrip renews support with Blood Bikes

Easytrip, Ireland’s only electronic parking and tolling tag provider, has renewed its support of not-for-profit charity Blood Bikes to cover their toll charges for the next two years, writes Trish Whelan.

Blood Bikes provide urgent transportation of donated blood, human tissue, breast milk and other essential medical items to hospitals and medical centres 365 days a year, and supply their service free of charge thanks to a legion of volunteers.

Easytrip has supported the charity since April 2017 allowing Blood Bikes to continue their vital service throughout Ireland by reducing their bikers’ and drivers’ time of queuing at toll plazas to pay toll charges.

Easytrip’s CEO Colin Delaney says they regularly receive updates from the Blood Bikes team on how they are performing, and to date the impact of the partnership has been a very positive one.

Fergus Lennon, spokesperson for Blood Bikes Leinster says: “Since we first started working with easytrip we have improved our delivery time by us to 45 per cent. This means that our time sensitive and lifesaving deliveries are made quicker which impacts positively on the patients who need the vital medical supplies we deliver. We are not exempt for toll charges like other emergency services and we need to rely 100 per cent on the support of public and private donations. The support from easytrip has been invaluable as it has not only supported the charity financially but most importantly saved valuable travel time.”

Established in 2012, Blood Bikes is an Irish charity who provide a free emergency medical transport service and operates between hospitals across the whole of Ireland. Their fleet is tasked with the urgent transportation of donated blood, human tissue, stem cells, organs, chemotherapy medication, breast milk and other essential medical items to hospitals and medical centres nationwide all year round.
