Volkswagen's new generation Golf has been given 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test programme, writes Brian Byrne.
The new Golf scored 95pc of the points available for the protection of adult occupants, 89pc for child protection, while the score for pedestrian and cyclist protection was 76pc.
For the first time in the model the car has standard Lane Assist and Front Assist. The car brakes automatically in dangerous situations — even at very low speeds in the city and now includes Cyclist Monitoring, swerve support and a braking when turning function.
The ENCAP rating gave a 78pc score in the Safety Assist category.
