Mercedes-Benz to launch 23 new models in 2021

Looking ahead to 2021, Mercedes-Benz will introduce no fewer than 23 new models many of which will include hybrid and fully electric models with arrivals spread from January through to December, writes Trish Whelan.

Of these, six will be conventionally powered vehicles, and five will be new fully electric models as well as a further 12 new PHEV plug-in electric hybrids. First to arrive in January will be the new premium S-Class (pictured above), followed later in the month of a Maybach GLS, first foray by the German carmaker into the luxury crossover segment.

In June, revised versions of the 4-door GLS Coupe and AMG GT 4-door Coupe, along with a new S580 Maybach, are scheduled. Following later in the year will be a new SL two-door sports mode and a new C-Class in saloon, Estate and All-Terrain model variants.

From the brand’s EQ stable, five fully electric models are expected, the first of which (in January) will be the EQV. Based on the stylish V-Class, demand for the EQV is expected to come from luxury hotels and private hire specialists for deluxe airport transfers, small group tours and travel to race meetings and sporting events.

Arriving in April will be the EQA, first electric version of the GLA compact SUV followed in August by the S-Class inspired EQS luxury saloon. Towards year-end, a new AMG EQS 53 and new E-Class inspired EQE executive saloon are expected.

A 12-strong line-up of hybrids vehicles will be introduced in 2021 that are likely to appeal to the increasing body of eco-conscious motorists seeking cars that deliver the best of all worlds, according to the brand’s Sales Manager in Ireland, Ciaran Allen. Expected in Q1 are an A250e, B 250e, GLA 250e and CLA 250e in Coupe and Shooting Brake (estate) versions. A similarly configured GLC hybrid range in Coupe and SUV form - a GLC 300e and GLC 300de - will be available in petrol and diesel.

Also arriving will be a GLE 350de and GLE Coupe 350de, all with 4Match automatic transmission. Scheduled for later in the year are C-Class and S-Class petrol powered hybrids - a C 300e and S 580e.
