New Mercedes-Benz EQA here in March

Mercedes-Benz this morning unveiled its EQA entry model to the all-electric world of Mercedes-EQ vehicles, writes Trish Whelan.

Launching in March, EQA is designed with ‘jump in and drive me’ appeal and is pitched to an ‘open-minded, urban target group’ of younger motorists. Badged EQA 250, and with an SUV body styled on their GLA, it is the first Mercedes-EQ offering in the compact car segment.

It comes with 140kW power, combined consumption of 15.7 kWh/100km, and a range of 426km, according to WLTP. Future variants will include all-wheel-drives with outputs of 200 kW or more which will have a WLTP calculated range of in excess of 500km.

The standard spec includes MBUX User Experience infotainment system with navigation and electric intelligence. In looks, the car has a typical Mercedes-EQ front-end design with black panel grille and star, a distinctive fibre-optic strip running along front and rear, and EQ blue headlamp strips.

Other features include a big complement of airbags, high-performance headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, an electrically operated opening and closing tailgate, 18-inch alloys, 64-colour ambient lighting, luxury seats with lumbar support, reversing camera. A Night Package and two design and equipment lines - Electric Art and AMG Line, are also available.

The interior gets back-lit trim and rose gold decorative elements on ventilation outlets, seats and key. The intelligent navigation system helps drivers calculate the fastest route to their destination taking into account charging times, topography, weather, traffic conditions and driving style.

Ciaran Allen, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz in Ireland says this car is designed for young and young-at-heart drivers anxious to invest in modern, stylish, highly-equipped motoring.

Price will be revealed closer to launch.
