New generation Land Cruiser debuts

This is the new generation Toyota Land Cruiser, the first full change to the model since 2007, writes Brian Byrne.

Debuted in an online presentation from Dubai, the 300 Series Land cruiser will go on sale in its first European markets from later in the summer. The vehicle is built on a new platform, and gets new engines and transmissions.

A 3.3 V6 twin-turbo diesel is likely to be the engine of choice here, but the Land Cruiser also gets the option of a 3.5 petrol V6. A new 10-speed automatic is available with both power units.

The Land Cruiser is still a body-on-frame design, but the overall vehicle is 400kg lighter than the outgoing one.

Land Cruiser's origins go back 70 years to the company's BJ model of 1951.
