Car registrations for year to date are 16pc up on the same period last year, writes Brian Byrne. Electric cars sales have increased by 46.1pc in the 4-month period.
Light commercial vehicle registrations have increased by 25.3pc.
By engine type, petrol accounted for almost 33pc of sales, diesel just over 22pc, hybrid 17.44pc, electric 16.66pc and PHEV 7.9pc.
The top selling car in April was the Dacia Sandero, and the top selling electric car the VW ID.4.
